UW Health is the integrated health system of the University of Wisconsin-Madison serving more than 700,000 patients each year in the Upper Midwest and beyond with 1,850 physicians and 21,000 staff at six hospitals and 80 outpatient sites. UW Health is governed by the UW Hospitals and Clinics Authority and partners with UW School of Medicine and Public Health to fulfill their patient care, research, education, and community service missions.

UW Health signed on to the Better Climate Challenge committing to a 50% reduction in GHG emissions across their 4.8 million square foot portfolio over 10 years from a 2020 baseline. UW Health’s goal was to reduce energy use intensity, or EUI, 20% by 2023; they successfully achieved that goal in 2018. They have set a second goal for an additional 14% from their initial baseline. Progress toward this goal has begun in earnest and has included retro-commissioning several buildings, LED lighting upgrades, HVAC scheduling changes, temperature setbacks, HVAC occupancy sensors, high-efficiency equipment, and demand reduction strategies. UW Health is committed to energy improvements that enhance both staff and patient comfort.
